I troed to visit Vishnu Springs yesterday with my ex-wife, just to see the hotel and see if we could find any remnants of the town and maybe even drink the spring water. We avoided the main (barred) entrance and tried instead to enter from the east, through a field and brush. Unfortunately we were stopped by a guy on a 4-wheeler. While not hostile, he told us there was no chance of visiting, and that those who enter will be prosecuted. He also said there are reportedly cameras around the hotel to catch trespassers. I guess my question is, are there any more open houses scheduled? I don't want to break the law or cause any problems, but it would truly be interesting to see this piece of almost-forgotten history.

For anyone who is interested, there is a Vishnu Springs group page on Facebook. There are lots of photos of the open house there. Hopefully some will be added to this site in the near future.

My father and I just attended the Open House. We are both history buffs, and really enjoyed looking around the property and imaging what it would have been like in it's hay day. I hope that WIU, and the surrounding communities will continue with the improvements started. I'm hoping some day it could be very similar to Nauvoo and provide a stepping stone back in time. If you ever need assistance clearing ground, painting, etc please contact me, as my family and I would gladly help.
